Zoo Day: Sumatran Tiger Exhibit To Open
03/13/2010 to 04/30/2010

A new Sumatran Tiger exhibit will open at The Jackson Zoo on Saturday, March 13. The new space features 8,000 square feet of outdoor roaming space for the Zoo's three Sumatran tigers, Kipling, Taymor and Emerson, who are three-year-old littermates. The new outdoor space features trees, a waterfall and a pool, with 17-foot-tall containment fencing. It offers more than 10 times the space of the current tiger exhibit and can comfortably accommodate up to five tigers. An 1,800-square-foot holding facility is also included with the new space. The new exhibit opens on the 2010 Zoo Day, Saturday, March 13. Zoo Day will offer games, activities and music for a day of fun for the whole family. Admission to The Jackson Zoo is $8.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under 12. Children under two are admitted at no charge. Special group rates are available.



Women in Preservation

Millsaps Forum: Stories of Justice and Reconciliation in MS
All Day Event; 03/26/2010

Jerry Mitchell's investigative reporting for the Jackson Clarion-Ledger has led to the reopening and successful prosecution of four seemingly cold murder cases from the Civil Rights Era, including the conviction of Byron de la Beckwith for the shooting of Medgar Evers as portrayed in the movie Ghosts of Mississippi. Mitchell is a 2009 recipient of a "genius grant" from the Mac-Arthur Foundation. Lecture begins at 12:30pm in Room 215 of the Ford Academic Complex at Millsaps College.
